LEWIS MUMFORD AND THE FOOD FIGHTERS:
A Food Revolution in America
“Radical, outrageous, insightful… the future of food.” -Kelly Anne Blount, USA TODAY Bestselling Author
Multinational food corporations have taken over the food supply. Lewis Mumford and a misfit band of rebel food fighters battle to take back control of their food and their lives in this compelling non-fiction story about food sovereignty and regional resilience.
The recent Covid-19 pandemic and then Russian hackers on our oil and meat supply created food shortages and higher prices that revealed the weak links in our global, industrialized food system—a food supply chain that promotes itself as a source of plenty for all but really creates monopolies for wealthy corporations and food insecurity for the rest of us. In Lewis Mumford and the Food Fighters, Robert Turner defines a values-based and principle-centered approach to food that can restore our health and create a more sustainable and resilient food system for future generations. Turner shows us the character traits and values that are at the root of positive human behavior and sustainable living, and the result is a guidebook to finding peace and happiness, building lasting relationships, and regaining trust in our food system.
“With biting satire and wit, Turner speaks to the heart of the problems we face with industrial agriculture.”
-Cameron Farlow, Executive Director, Organic Growers School
“An eye-opening look at the future of the American farm and a revolutionary blueprint to overcome global food and climate challenges” -Kelly Anne Blount, USA TODAY Bestselling Author
"The power to discuss the modern food system in America with humor and heroes is one tall order. This book has done it. A captivating read!” - Lee Warren, Community Builder at Reclaiming Wisdom

Twelve years after Michael Pollan first opened our eyes to the modern problems of the industrial food complex, organic farmer and successful businessman Robert Turner explores what has changed in our food culture and how the current ‘grow local’ and ‘farm to table’ movement is now determining where and how we live.
In Carrots Don’t Grow on Trees an organic farm takes center stage in a new kind of agriculturally-based community where residents gain closer connections healthy food and the farmers who grow it. Turner wasn’t trying to build Utopia; the community he envisions is the next logical step for the ‘eat your view’ movement that has already changed restaurant menus around the world. Turner takes a no-nonsense business approach to saving small farms and protecting our local farming capacity while preserving the important knowledge of growing food for future generations.
